further states can be expected to join IRENA.
Berlin, 6 February 2009 - The newly-founded world-organisation International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) already represents over two and a half billion people, over a third of the global population. After India joined IRENA as its 76th member, the number of people living in its member states and thus directly impacted by IRENA, rose to 2,68 billion.

Successful conclusion of the Final Preparatory Conference on the Foundation of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Madrid
At the Final Preparatory Conference for the establishment of IRENA on October 23 and 24 in Madrid, 51 states reached a broad agreement on the statute of the international governmental agency. "The path is now cleared for the Founding Conference of IRENA on January 26, 2009 in Bonn", announced Hermann Scheer, member of the German parliament. Hermann Scheer, as president of EUROSOLAR and General Chairman of the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE), has been advocating the establishment of IRENA both in Germany and at the international level since early 1990.

The International Renewable Energy Agency will be established on 26 January 2009 in Bonn, Germany.
More than 100 states will attend the Founding Conference of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) next Monday in Bonn. Approximately 50 states announced that they would sign the treaty. Since the nineties EUROSOLAR and the WCRE have continuously promoted the idea of IRENA. The German government has initiated the process that now leads to the foundation of IRENA.
